Nessie sightings then Inverness

When we drove past Urquhart Castle the day before, the carpark was full and there was a sign that said unless you had a booking, no motorhomes. When we made camp, we immediately booked our motorhomes a parking spot. Tickets were part of our pass, but clearly reserving a spot was important and we were told as much as we entered the site in the morning. Parking for motorhomes was a tight spot and became a challenge when we left, but of course you just deal and we did.

Urquhart Castle was the first for us that was mostly ruins. It was a fun explore and was a very photogenic spot with all that fluorescent green grass lawns making the ruins stand out. The castle sits on the bank of Loch Ness and of course we had to go hunting for Nessie… believe it or not, we captured a few sightings and Jason even managed to lay his hands on the beast! 😉

Along the edge of Loch Ness led us to Torvean Caravan Park, our host for our Inverness stay. This, again, was a tidy park with clean facilities and friendly staff who let us check in early. We parked up, made some lunch, had a nap zzzzzzzz, then headed out to explore Inverness.

The caravan park was next to a swing bridge over a canal that had to turn to let boats pass. Over the bridge was a sports complex and then a riverside walk that eventually led us to the Ness Islands which are a series of islands in centre of the river Ness.  They are all gardens and parkland which appeared to be a popular spot to take your dog for a walk.  We came across a log painted up as Nessie and as we were lining ourselves for a selfie along the log, we got a surprise photo bomber in Molly who joined us on the log. Funny little dog! Her owner tells us it was part of her routine to jump on the log for a treat and apparently a bunch of Aussies on the log was not going to get in the way of a treat!

Wee crossed the bridge Nessie Islands to the river bank and followed the river along towards the centre of Inverness. We stopped in at brewery recommended by the park manager who said it worth a stop, but they had no live music or food so we knew it was to be a short stop. Uile Bheist was a very cool brewery and a good way to kick off our night out. A paddle board of brews to try followed up with another and it was time to walk into the city centre to find the famed night life.

Our host at the caravan park said we wouldn’t need to look for the area, we would hear it. She was good to her word and let’s leave the nights proceedings between friends, shall we? Needless to say an eventful night developed and luckily for the 4 of us (some more than others) we lived to tell the tale to those close enough to hear the story 🎶

Tip #15 a night out in Inverness is a night out unlike any other. Brace yourselves.
