11km before Agnes Water is a well signed turn to the left into Eurimbula National Park. 15km in from there on a dirt and minimally maintained road you will find a beautiful little piece of coastline at the mouth of Eurimbula Creek. Nestled in behind the dunes are some scattered campsites among some big shady trees.

Most sites seemed to have a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring. You need to BYO firewood and a shower. There is a drop toilet onsite and access to tank water, but otherwise you need to be self sufficient. The road in is quite narrow and not recommended for caravans but our hybrid was no trouble to get in.
This was our first time here, but we stayed with friends who have been camping here in the June school holiday for several years. They tell us that a few of the sites have disappeared due to storms and the movement of the creek mouth washing them away. We didn’t experience anything but exceptional winter weather on our 3 nights. Warm enough to wear shorts in the day and cool enough to have a roaring camp fire at night.

Considering we were camping in school holiday period, you certainly couldn’t complain about crowds of people. Perhaps the road in is a deterrent but the sites were not fully booked which meant it felt pretty private and remote. Just how we like it!!
We spent the first day playing games on the beach which we had mostly to ourselves, the next day fishing on the bank of the creek and the last day hanging around the fire tending to a camp oven feast while playing cards.

Each evening we would make our way to the beach to watch the sun go down which was pretty spectacular for the east coast given it set across the water. A controlled fire north from us gave the sunset a nice red glow which added a little something something to the show.

What to do in a place like this… well, hang up a hammock and read a book OR take your fishing rod down to the beach or creek and try your luck OR book the aquaduck to collect you from the front of your campsite and take you on a guided tour to the lighthouse across the creek in the distance as our friends did. They enjoyed the trip, though it was a long day and they were pretty thirsty when they arrived back in the late afternoon!

It is a beautiful part of Queensland and a camping spot we will definitely visit again, but shhhhh we don’t want too many people to find it! We had 3 nights of happy camping and wished we could have stayed longer.
Oh, did I mention the happy little sea turtle hanging around in the crystal clear water?? Bliss
