Baffle Creek Hipcamp

Camping at Easter, it is what we do. The challenge is always finding a spot that accommodates our large and loud family. Never mind that between us there are 6 dogs…

Hipcamp is the obvious place to look because often these places are more private, allow the doggos and won’t break the bank. This year the search was to try and find somewhere between Emerald and Noosa with water. Didn’t take me long to work out it wasn’t going to inland.

Baffle Creek popped up on the map and it worked. The booking included a top floor 1 bedroom unit which meant some of the non-camping family could also come. We had 4 adults and two little ones in the house and the rest of us camped in the paddock nearby. The added bonus of the unit was that it had bathroom facilities which meant we didn’t need to be completely self-contained.

Baffle Creek itself had a general store, hardware and bottle shop. General store opened across the weekend and certainly came in handy just down the road.

We had the run of a 50 acre creek front property. There was a couple of out-of-bounds areas which were the bottom floor of the house, house yard and the caretaker’s camp section at the creek. As I said we camped at the house site to be all together, but could have camped on the creek.

The creek site was about 650m from the house site down a well formed track. An easy walk or ride on a bike but of course most of us drove down. The creek site included a fishing platform hanging over the creek edge, a bush boat ramp which we launched the tinny from on high tide, a fire pit, plunge pool, shade and supplied fishing/crabbing equipment. The hosts certainly brought the goods! Timber in abundance and spare tackle for the inevitable snags while fishing.

The fishing and crabbing was pretty good. Caught a few crabs of legal size which went down a treat with the seafood loving people among us. The fish were on, but nothing kept which happens! All in all, a great weekend away somewhere new and of course happy memories were made.
