My Happy Travels

Happiness is so many things to so many people. There is a list of things that brings happiness to my life – my husband, my children and my super large crazy weird family. But travel, exploring, experiencing other cultures, living a brief moment in time in another place brings me joy like nothing else.

I’m not sure if it is the ‘not working’ part of travel or the ‘creating memories’ part that I love the most. Each of those elements can be achieved happily whilst not travelling so maybe it is the leaving home and having new experiences that is the happiness generator!

It is everything from the planning and anticipation before the trip to soaking up the moment in the midst of a holiday that evokes happiness. In the middle of the most chaotic day at work I can think about an upcoming trip and realise I was just working hard to get there. It is cathartic and reassuring that the reward is coming. I look at my countdown app on my phone that tells me how long until I get on that plane and the world seems right again.

I was raised by a mother with itchy feet and we moved around lots in my childhood. It has stayed with me, this need to see what else is out there and I am lucky enough to find a partner in life who is happy to join me in my need to explore. We have travelled small and big both pre children times and whilst raising our beautiful daughters. It is something we have instilled in our girls that there is a big world outside your own bubble to explore and we hope that serves them well in their lives.

As we move into this next stage of life where our daughters are out of home getting on with their own lives, I hope to do even more trips both at home in this beautiful country, Australia, but also over seas ticking off some bucket list destinations for us both.

I don’t know where my happy travels will take us but look forward to sharing the journeys in a different way with this blog.
